Marlon Brando Dead at 80
Marlon Brando, an icon of American cinema, passed away yesterday of lung failure at the age of 80. As an actor, Brando literally re-defined the art; single-handedly moving it from the presentational and oratorial style that prevailed at the time he took the stage as Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" toward the reality-based style of acting that prevails today. Widely hailed as the "greatest actor of his generation," and possibly of all time, at the same time that he was known for bizarre and self-destructive behavior off-screen. We will always remember him as Don Vito Corleone of "The Godfather" and Colonel Walter Kurtz in "Apocalypse Now." He was a wild and crazy guy, and we'll miss him. God rest his soul.
