The Real Face of War

This video, taken by the gun camera of a U.S. Apache helicopter, shows an engagement between the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division and a small group of Iraqis. THE VIDEO CONTAINS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC VIOLENCE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

What a bunch of bull! To show this video then point to this site is the lowest thing you have done so far. What is this link to, some one world government activist site?

Are you really trying to say that our boys flying this helicopter are deliberately blowing up civilians? You ought to be ashamed!

I made no judgements on what happened during this engagement. I merely described it as "a small group of Iraqis." Not "Iraqi civilians." Not "Iraqi soldiers." And once again, if you had bothered to actually read the page I linked to, you would have noticed that it was mentioned several times that the soldiers believed that the men on the ground were handling a weapon and that they were privy to a larger intelligence picture than what is shown in the video. I am not trying to say that our soldiers are deliberately blowing up civilians, but I am most definitely trying to point out that our soldiers are deliberately blowing up real human beings. War is ugly. Split-second decisions are made. People die. I find it sad that you filter this video through your own bias and choose to be upset because you thought that I was denigrating our soldiers, rather than being upset that you just watched 3 real human beings get blown away by 30 mm artillery fire.

And to try and make myself perfectly clear, our soldiers are also being shot at and killed. Real people. With real families. And real dreams. Dying. For real. And for what? How does one "win" in a situation like that? Does the side which stacks up the most bodies get to declare itself the winner?

bcoffee,
Let me make one thing clear. These guys our defending freedom and doing their jobs to protect your life and mine. You might choose to see it from a different point of view but I am grateful.

You also might say that fighting in Iraq is not protecting you. Well, I would say that apparently the ones who are dying and risking their lives over there, to try and keep another 9/11 from happening, must see things quite differently since you have polls showing 75% voting Bush.

And by the way I did read the link you pointed to and I was outraged. The story was still trying to get across the idea that the boys are killing anything that moves. That they are not cautious enough to protect innocent lives. The diagram clearly tries to labels these people as innocent farmers. What a farce. Sounds like the same kind of stuff Kerry did after Vietnam.

I am really disappointed that you would fall for this stuff. These are the brave men and women who fight for your life and freedom!

Tsk tsk bcoffee...Ms. Burkett is disappointed in you. To think you actually fell for the old, these are real people getting blown up scam.

You have convinced me to remove the link, and for that I thank you. I do not endorse the viewpoint of the Center for Globalisation Research, and you made me realize that by linking to their site people such as yourself may make the assumption that I do endorse them. The link was not necessary; I only offered it for anyone who may wish to learn more about the worldwide controversy that the War in Iraq has engendered. In fact, judging by your response, the link actually served as a distraction from my point. The video is powerful enough to stand alone, without my commentary or the commentary of any other website. I offer it only as a small window into what war is actually like. You may take it any way that you wish.

Thank you for removing the link. I am glad you saw what I was talking about. Politics are one thing but we need to be very careful of giving any wrong impressions of our troops. They do fight on our behalf.

I can now see you never meant for it to come across that way and I am sorry for implying you did.

What the media doesnt tell you about this war, is that a good portion of us that are going into, and are currently serving in Iraq, have split opinions regarding the situation.

On one hand, we view the removal of Saddam a "good thing" in the larger picture...

On the other hand, we are outraged that the reasons we were sent here have nothing to do with reality in any way, shape, or form.

Iraq was never a real threat, not in the way everyone was led to believe at first... There may have been terrorists here linked to the 9/11 attacks at one point, but they all left the day the boots hit the dirt.

OBL has allways been in Afghanistan but our forces were pulled away from there into this nightmare.

Do you people even realise that we lack even the basic fundamental equipment for protection, feeding, and medical care?

I can guarantee you that at minimum 75% of us feel that we were armed with damp toothpicks to put out a raging inferno...

Seriously...

The majority of americans, however patriotic, have no damn clue how much it sucks in Iraq.

We should have never came here.

(real name witheld due to fear of speaking out)
